On 30th November 1940, Polish pilot Sgt. Franciszek Prętkiewicz died as a result of the crash of a Hawker Hurricne at Ballypatrick Forest near Cushendun.
Sergeant Franciszek Pretkiewicz fatally crashed on the 30th November 1940 when the engine of his Hurricane Fighter seized.
He tried to bail out of his diving aircraft, but unfortunately his parachute got caught around the tail of his Hurricane, resulting in the aircraft spinning out of control and hitting the ground at speed.
